Gaza Living Story

Gaza Living Story responds to the urgent need for narrative sovereignty in the face of imposed reconstruction plans. It preserves cultural and personal memory across generations, and opens space to imagine a future rooted in justice, care, and continuity.
Every place has a story. Every story deserves a future.
When places disappear, memories become more important than ever. They remind us that a city is more than buildings and streets. It is the people who lived there, the routines they cherished, the communities they built, and the hopes they carried for the future.
Gaza Living Story was created from this belief: the future of Gaza should not be imagined without the voices of Palestinians. As conversations about reconstruction continue, we wanted to create a space where people could document what was, reflect on what is, and imagine what could be. Not as observers, but as the authors of their own story.
Through an interactive map of memories, places, photographs, and personal stories, Palestinians across Gaza and the diaspora are creating a living archive that preserves culture, strengthens identity, and ensures that memory remains part of rebuilding. Every contribution becomes part of a collective story that cannot be erased because it belongs to the people who lived it.
But Gaza Living Story is not only about remembering. It is also about what comes next.
We hope these stories inspire people to act, whether by supporting Palestinian-led initiatives, contributing their own memories, advocating for a just future, or helping ensure that reconstruction is guided by the people whose lives, histories, and communities are rooted in Gaza. Stories can preserve memory, but they can also inspire solidarity, participation, and meaningful change.
Built by Yalla Labs in collaboration with Muslim Aid and Yalla Cooperative, Gaza Living Story demonstrates how technology can become a space for participation, collective memory, and hope.
